Course Details

This training course is designed for all staff working in licensed venues including pubs, bars, nightclubs, and licensed restaurants who have a responsibility to maintain a safe, clean, and compliant environment. The course provides in-depth knowledge and practical skills for identifying, assessing, and responding to all types of spillages that may occur in fast-paced hospitality settings.

Licensed venues face an elevated risk of spillages due to open drink service, crowded spaces, intoxicated patrons, and multifunctional layouts that combine food, drink, and entertainment. If not managed properly, spillages pose serious health and safety risks, including slips, falls, contamination, pest attraction, and injury. In addition, poor spillage management can lead to legal breaches, reputational damage, service disruption, and financial penalties.

This course equips learners with a clear understanding of the hazards posed by various spill types including drinks, food, broken glass, chemicals, and bodily fluids, as well as the legal framework surrounding venue safety, such as the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH Regulations, and Food Safety and Hygiene laws.

The course covers the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), spill kits, biohazard procedures, incident reporting, and team communication. It emphasises the importance of proactive safety culture, training, and documentation to pass Environmental Health inspections and protect the public.

Course Aims

This course equips staff in licensed venues with the knowledge and practical skills to identify, assess, and manage spillages safely and effectively. It also ensures compliance with UK health, safety, and licensing laws while creating a proactive safety culture that protects staff, customers, and the venue’s reputation.
